A veteran leaves the service with a record of real accomplishment. Leadership under pressure. Logistics at scale. Technical skill that took years to build. Then the resume goes out, and nothing comes back.
The problem is rarely capability. It is translation, and the absence of anyone in the room who can tell you how the civilian world actually works. Who reads the resume. What the interview is really asking. Whether the salary offer is good. Which of your instincts from the service will serve you here, and which one will get you in trouble.
American Corporate Partners exists to put that person in the room.
WHAT ACP DOES
ACP is a national nonprofit that connects veterans and active-duty military spouses with business professionals for a year of one-on-one mentoring. There is no cost to the veteran or the spouse. The mentor commits to a monthly conversation for twelve months.
That is the whole model. One person, one year, no transaction at the end.
Mentoring tracks cover career planning, professional networking, leadership development, small business and entrepreneurship, and work-life balance. The pairing is made on fit, not geography, so a veteran in Bradenton may be matched with a mentor anywhere in the country.
WHY THIS PILLAR
ACP is central to our Educate pillar. It is also, less obviously, Strengthen. Every mentor ACP prepares is a neighbor who has been made useful to a veteran, and a community with more of those neighbors in it is a stronger community. That is the same logic behind every training program we support.
I mentor through ACP myself, in the entrepreneurship track. I have watched veterans arrive with a business idea and no framework for testing it, and leave a year later with a real venture or a clear-eyed decision not to build one. Both are good outcomes. Neither happens alone.
IF YOU ARE A VETERAN OR MILITARY SPOUSE
You qualify if you are a post-9/11 veteran or the spouse of an active-duty service member. The program is free. You will be matched with a professional in your field of interest and meet with them monthly for a year.
You do not need a polished plan to start. Many of the veterans I have worked with came in knowing only that something needed to change. That is enough to begin.
IF YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL
The most common reason a qualified person declines to mentor is the belief that they are not expert enough. That belief is almost always wrong.
You are not being asked to be a career counselor. You are being asked to be someone who knows how a particular industry works and is willing to say so out loud, once a month, for a year. If you have hired people, run a team, built a business, or simply spent a career learning how your field actually operates, you know things a transitioning veteran cannot look up.
Think about who lives in this community. Retired executives. Business owners. Engineers, accountants, HR professionals, people who spent thirty years in an industry and now have their mornings free. This region is unusually rich in exactly the experience ACP is looking for.
An hour a month. Twelve months. That is the ask.

ACP is free to veterans and military spouses, and mentors serve without pay. What that free program costs is the technology and the staff who make thousands of matches a year, and that is what donations fund.

We are planning information sessions in Manatee and Sarasota Counties for anyone considering becoming a mentor, with time for questions from people already doing it. Dates are being finalized, and our subscribers will hear first.

Neighbors in Service accepts no donations for itself. Your gift goes directly to American Corporate Partners through their own secure gateway. They process it, they receipt it, and they use it.

If you are a post-9/11 veteran or a military spouse anywhere in this region, the mentoring is free and the application takes very little time. Whatever you are trying to figure out, someone has figured out a version of it already.
If you have built a career and have an hour a month, this is the most concentrated use of your experience I know of. One veteran. One year. A conversation that keeps happening.
